Barcelona's rooftops are almost all attached to hotels, which is good news — it means they are open to non-guests, they take reservations, and the views are pointed at the things you want to look at rather than at each other.

The plan is built around the light rather than the drinks. Start on a terrace facing the Gothic rooftops while the sun is still up, and move once the city switches its lights on. Prices are what you would expect for a view; one drink per rooftop is the sane approach.

Before you go

Do I need to book a rooftop bar?

For the well-known hotel terraces on a summer weekend, yes — they fill from about 19:00 and some operate a guest-list policy at peak times. Midweek you can usually walk in.

Is there a dress code?

Smart casual covers it almost everywhere. Beachwear and flip-flops are the reliable way to be turned away, particularly at the hotel terraces.

Are rooftop bars open in winter?

Many close or reduce hours from roughly November to March, and those that stay open move indoors on cold nights. Check before making the trip out of season.
