Natural wine bars and Catalan bubbles after dark
Catalonia makes serious wine and most visitors never get past the sangria. This evening moves through three registers of it — a classic wine bar with a Gothic church for a view, the natural wine end of El Born, and finally the cheapest glass of cava in the city, drunk standing up.
The last stop is the one people remember. Can Paixano is loud, cramped, cash-oriented and completely unbothered about any of it, and it is a genuinely better time than anywhere with a wine list twice the length.

What is the difference between cava and champagne?
Method is the same; grapes and place are not. Cava is made mostly in Penedès, an hour from Barcelona, from local varieties — which is why an excellent bottle here costs a fraction of its French equivalent.
Do I need to book these wine bars?
The natural wine bars are small and fill fast — going before 21:00 is the reliable approach. The standing cava bars take no bookings at all; you simply join the crush.
Can I visit the vineyards from Barcelona?
Yes. Penedès is under an hour away by train or organised tour, and makes a comfortable half day. It is better as a next-day plan than an add-on to this evening.
