Rain in Barcelona is usually short, heavy and over within the hour — which makes the right strategy not hiding indoors all day but stringing together places where being inside is the point, with short hops between them.
This route keeps every walk under ten minutes and every stop worth an hour or more. The Gothic churches and the covered market are the underrated part: both are free to enter, and both are at their best when the weather is bad and everyone else has gone.

Does it rain much in Barcelona?
Not often, but when it does it arrives hard. Autumn — particularly October — brings the heaviest downpours. They rarely last all day, so building in a long indoor stop usually outlasts the weather.
What is the best free indoor option?
The churches. Santa Maria del Mar is one of the finest Gothic interiors in Europe and costs nothing to walk into. The covered markets are the other option — warm, busy, and free to wander.
Do museums get busier when it rains?
Noticeably, yes. Everyone has the same idea. Booking a timed slot in advance on a wet morning is worth it even at places you would normally walk straight into.
